9.5 Tonnes of Capsicums Rejected. Why?

9.5 Tonnes of Capsicums Rejected. Why?

Because they didn’t look perfect.

Supermarkets throw away perfectly good produce every day—capsicums, carrots, apples—just because they’re slightly wonky or “off-brand.”

This guy worked in a supermarket, and the rules were clear:
✔️ Only pick “good” fruits and vegetables—bright, smooth, flawless.
❌ Anything weirdly shaped? Straight to the trash.

It’s a system where:
🌱 Farmers do the hardest work but get paid the lowest prices.
🌍 10% of global emissions come from food waste.

But here’s what you can do:
✅ Buy straight from farmers—better quality, fairer prices, stronger local economies.
✅ Support imperfect produce programs.
✅ Shift the demand away from “perfect” aesthetics to real, sustainable food systems.

Our food system is broken—but we can choose to fix it.
